Vidya Lakshmi Nikesh

Painting, Multi-media

Vidya Lakshmi is a self-taught, multi-disciplinary visual artist born in India. She moved to Texas in 2020. Art in many forms has always been part of her life.
Vidya explored arts from a very young age and has learned and practiced many forms of art. Her maternal grandmother has been a great influence on her. She had worked in embroidery, knitting and crocheting from her grandmother, which helped hone her designing and drawing skills. Watching her mother weave baskets and receiving training in South-Indian classical music has also been a great inspiration to her art.
Vidya graduated with a degree in Business Administration and worked as a Human Resources professional for more than decade, all the while practicing art and displaying in various shows in many countries. She quit her corporate stint in 2016 to become a full-time artist and art instructor. Meanwhile she also pursued a Master’s in Visual Arts and graduated.
Vidya finds the world of Science, Psychology and Mathematics fascinating, and her artwork expresses her interpretation on these subjects. She works in multiple mediums, including oils, mosaics, pastels and colored pencils. Vidya’s art has been displayed in many shows in India, United States, London, Egypt and Burma. She is a member of various art organizations in the United States and currently is the Vice-President and board member of Plano Art Association. Vidya’s creative expressions are born in her home studio, and she also enjoys plein-air painting sessions.
